While most young girls said things like, "I want to be a princess!" or "I want to be a doctor" or teacher or whatever, I said, "Mommy, I want to be Mother Teresa!" I also wanted to be Princess Diana for a while. Then in later years, I decided I was just going to morph the two of them into one SuperWoman and call her Brittny.
I tell you that random story to tell you this...
I'M GOING TO INDIA!!!
The organization I'm going with is Rising Star Outreach. Their mission is to help the Leprosy colonies become thriving, self-sufficient communities. They are accomplishing this through four major initiatives: economic rehabilitation through micro-grants; providing medical care through mobile medical clinics; educating children by providing opportunities to become productive citizens of India; and creating life long humantiarians by providing service opportunities for volunteers.
I'm preparing my heart by reading No Greater Love by Mother Teresa.
One of the greatest things I've read so far: Strive to be the demonstration of God in the midst of your community. Sometimes we see how joy returns to the lives of the most destitute when they realize that many among us are concerned about them and show them our love. Even their health improves if they are sick. May we never forget that in service to the poor we are offered a magnificent opportunity to do something beautiful for God. In fact, when we give ourselves with all our hearts to the poor, it is Christ whom we are serving in their disfigured faces. For He himself said, "You did it for me."
I also started P90X this week, which I guess is a pretty great (eh, brutal) way to prepare my body...
That was my face after the first workout. Sexy, right? I know, I know.. fall in line, gentlemen, fall in line. :) My muscles still ache but it's not a "I broke everything in my body" type of ache but more of a "I just did an amazing workout" kind of ache. Or at least I hope nothing is broken.
My heart is overjoyed with the way God is blessing my life already this year. I'm going to definitely need YOUR help going to India. I'll be posting more information later this month on how you can help (financially) with my trip.
